Malibu Rocky Oaks Estate
A hilltop vineyard estate above Malibu with panoramic ocean views, open-air ceremony spaces, and golden California light that lasts all evening.
Where the Ocean Meets the Hills
Malibu Rocky Oaks sits on a hilltop above the Santa Monica Mountains with views that stretch from the vineyard rows down to the Pacific. It's one of those venues that requires almost no decoration, the landscape does everything. I've photographed here in every season and the light is consistently extraordinary, but spring, when the surrounding hills are green and the wildflowers are out, is in a category of its own.
What Makes It Photograph So Well
The estate has a natural amphitheater quality, a circular ceremony space surrounded by old oak trees and vineyard trellises that creates beautiful natural framing in almost every direction. The golden hour here, when the sun drops toward the ocean and the vineyard catches the last warm light, produces images that couples print large and hang on walls for the rest of their lives.
Who This Venue Is For
Rocky Oaks consistently attracts couples who want something that feels both luxurious and genuinely natural, not a ballroom dressed up with florals, but a landscape that's beautiful on its own terms. It holds around 50 guests for an intimate ceremony, which tends to produce weddings with real presence and connection. If you're getting married here, reach out. I know this venue intimately and would love to be part of your day.

The Details That Make the Difference
The estate sits at the end of a winding road above the Malibu hills, which means arrivals feel like an event in themselves. Guests step out of their cars into panoramic vineyard views and warm coastal air, and the mood of the day is set before the ceremony has even begun. The property has a natural flow to it, from the welcome area through the ceremony space to the reception lawn, that makes the day feel seamless without requiring heavy coordination.
A Note on Seasons
Spring at Rocky Oaks is exceptional. The surrounding hills are green, the wildflowers are out, and the light has a softness that summer can't replicate. Fall is equally beautiful in a different register, golden, warm, and long. I've shot here in both seasons and would happily recommend either. Summer and winter dates are available and have their own character, but if your date is flexible, April through June or September through October are where I'd point you.
